This time of the year has to be one of the busiest in the gardening calendar. Seeds waiting to be sown, new seedlings emerging, bulbs starting to show themselves, and above all, weeds weeds weeds and more weeds.
So, what have we done today, well, Jay dug over just under half of bed 1 and the rest of it he covered with manure and then covered that with black plastic sheeting so it would help it rot down faster and get some more heat into the soil. He also built the first of many brick paths down the side of one of the fruit beds, in the end, all the fruit beds will be accessed by a brick path (makes it a whole lot easier as we can not get the lawn mower down the narrow paths and using the shears kills your knuckles).
Jay also covered part of bed 3 with home compost and added another layer of fresh (shop brought) compost on the strawberry tub.
Whilst Jay was busy doing all that, I used the shears to cut the long grass on the chill out area to the side of the greenhouse, sowed some seeds in pots, gave the small cherry tree a quick prune as there where a few small branches crossing each other and rubbing (the pruned bits didn't go to waste, I planted them in a pot and with all luck they will root so we will have a few more cherry trees in the future.
Another thing I did today was to fill 4 pots with compost ready for a new little project of mine.
I bet you are wondering what I am up to now, well all I am going to say is Fairy Gardens.
Keep a close eye on things on here for the next few weeks to see exactly what I do with the pots. :)
